The OCCII (Onafhankelijk Cultureel Centrum In It) is a venue for alternative and independent music in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The organization is mostly run by volunteers and has its roots in the squatting movement; the building was squatted in 1984 and “legalized” in 1989. Next to the concert hall, there’s also a , a restaurant (called MKZ), the Anarchist library, theatre for children (Kinderpret), a bike workshop (Farafina), a sauna (Fenomeen), rehearsal studios, and a big courtyard with a garden.
The building the OCCII resides in was built as a horse tram garage with stables in 1883-84 by architect Abraham Salm (1857-1915), who also designed (together with his father G. B. Salm) the buildings where popular commercial venues Melkweg and Paradiso now operate.
The OCCII has no central programming, instead there are several programming groups that set the agenda. Some of these groups are Le Club Suburbia (mostly indie and post-punk), `Nada (new wave and EBM), Muziek Kapot Moet (experimental, electronic, noise, weird pop), Spellbound (Queer, electronic, dance), The Real Amsterdam Underground /Doom!Shit!Doom! (punk, hardcore, Doom, Sludge), HalloGallo (sounds & colours for body and mind) and Cool Schmool (dance, indie, mostly female fronted).

The Student Centre is a multifunctional space in the heart of Zagreb, centre of students with different orientations, areas of interest and activities. Besides the student population, the SC also gathers together cultural workers, artists, and visual arts, music, performing arts and film lovers.
The Culture of Change
With its music, visual arts, theatre, film and radio program, the Culture of Change creates a number of interesting projects, workshops, concerts and festivals which visitors can enjoy on daily basis.
Aiming to actively and systematically incorporate students into the creation of programs within the Student Centre, The Culture of Change features a NON STOP COMPETITION throughout the whole year, to which students, student organizations, organizations promoting urban culture and youth culture can apply with interesting, educative, multidiscipline, multimedia and progressive projects.
The Culture of Change is, and will try to be in the future, open for all interesting initiatives and conceptions of programs, especially of the younger authors and students.
Activities of the Culture of Change:
Music Activity – THE MUSIC SALON
Muzička slušaonica (Musical Listenings), a new project originated in the second half of the 1960s mostly hosted lectures followed by musical reproductions played on gramophone records.
Muzička slušaonica, later renamed the SC Music Salon, has become an important centre of extra-institutional education, common experimenting and learning, as well as an insight into the current world music production. The Music Salon offered the programs of contemporary music and gave the students an opportunity to realize their projects. During the 90s, activity of the Music Salon, together with the whole cultural program, was stagnating.
Within the concept of the Culture of Change, the main framework of the Music Salon is to promote free jazz and improvisation, experimental electronic music and avant-garde rock, as well as to avoid the classic, and usually unnecessary and imprecise, classification of music into a certain genre or style. The Music Salon regularly cooperates with the students of Music Academy. Besides the regular music program in all premises of the SC, the Music Salon produces three important music festivals:
• ZGetno festival, started because of The wish to learn about and get closer to different cultures and people via their traditional music; had its premier in March 2006. Up until now, this festival presented performers from Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and musicians from India, China and the USA. All of them use in their music the elements of traditional music of their originating country (The Tiptons, Fengxia Xu, Joe Fonda, Zoltan Lantos, Banjara – The Gypsies of Rajasthan, Esma Redžepova, Dražen Franolić – Nimai Roy…).
• N.O. JAZZ FESTIVAL is a musical manifestation that focuses on jazz and everything understood under the term, but it is also a manifestation dedicated to freedom in music, experimenting and non-limiting to narrow musical-stylistic framework. By its title (N.O. = not only jazz festival) and its program, this festival tears down the borders within which jazz has been produced for ages, and encourages musical research and experimenting. Festival has already hosted numerous domestic and world known artists who create under the same guidelines. Some of them are William Parker, Mephista, Rashied Ali Quintet, The Necks, Miles Griffith, Charles Gayle Trio, Satoko Fuji Quartet, Robert Fisher, Joe McPhee Trio, Steve Wynn & Miracle 3, Damon & Naomi, Benny Lackner Trio, Larry Ochs, Dave Douglas Keystone Sextet.
Within N.O. Jazz Festival, in 2007 started a number of musical workshops titled muSiClab – aimed at artists, students and amateurs willing to experiment, understand, react and create.
• ŽEDNO UHO FESTIVAL (THIRSTY EAR FESTIVAL) tries to present the best and most interesting achievements in contemporary music and break down the limits of genre and prejudices originating from them. The aim is to introduce the audience to different kinds of music and raise the curiosity that would fight the existing prejudices.
Žedno uho hosted Calexico, Seven that spells, Iron&Wine, Ostinato, Man Zero, Red Sparowes, Cul De Sac, The Black Lips, The Notwist, Amon Tobin, Animals On Wheels, Apse, David Grubbs, Townhouse Orchestra, Old Time Relijiun, Aids Wolf, Gang of Four….
